Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls is being removed from Apple Arcade today, August 20, ahead of its complete service termination on September 3. Konami's mobile Castlevania has already experienced an unusual history: it originally appeared as a free-to-play game before being discontinued and later returned as an Apple Arcade exclusive with its monetisation removed.
The side-scrolling action RPG brought together characters from across Castlevania history, combining traditional combat and RPG progression with a service-based structure. Today's delisting means new users will no longer be able to install the game through Apple Arcade once the removal takes effect. Existing players have only a short final period before the servers close completely.
Unless Konami creates an offline version, Grimoire of Souls may then become unavailable even to subscribers who had previously downloaded it. That raises the wider issue of mobile-game preservation. A substantial game can effectively disappear when its authentication or server infrastructure is switched off. Players who have unfinished chapters or simply want one last visit should therefore use the remaining two weeks before the September shutdown.
